First LNG into Finland's 2nd Terminal
Leading European supplier of small-scale LNG, Skangas, said November 20 it has delivered the first commissioning cargo of LNG to the Manga import terminal at Tornio in northern Finland.
The shipment was delivered November 19 aboard Coral Energy, an LNG carrier chartered by Skangas.
Once completed summer 2018, Manga will be the largest LNG import terminal in the Nordic countries and the second LNG terminal in Finland; the project is on schedule and expected to cost €110mn; its mechanical completion was announced late August.
The Manga terminal at Roytta harbour, Tornio, is a joint venture of Finnish manufacturers Outokumpu and SSAB Europe, as well as energy supplier EPV Energy – to which commercial deliveries are scheduled to start summer 2018 – as well as Norway-based Skangas, which is 70% owned by Finnish utility Gasum. Finland's first LNG import terminal at Pori in western Finland opened summer 2016.
Skangas adds that bunker LNG customers will include LNG-powered cargo ships and the new Finnish icebreaker Polaris.
