Five projects earn Canadian cleantech funding
Five projects targeting methane issues, waste-heat utilisation, fuel switching and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) will receive a total of C$720,553 (US$565,870) in funding from NGIF Capital and its NGIF Industry Grants programme, NGIF Capital said September 22.
The approved projects, selected under NGIF Industry Grants’ Round 6 competition, have a combined eligible project value of more than C$6mn.

“The commitment to drive cleantech innovation by these Round 6 finalists is invigorating,” NGIF Capital CEO John Adams said. “NGIF Industry Grants and its focus on startups de-risking their clean technologies through field trials and pilots is part of NGIF’s integrated model of industry validation, customer creation, and market commercialisation.
The Round 6 competition was launched in December 2020, supported by Birchcliff Energy, CSV Midstream Solutions, Cutbank Dawson Gas Resources (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi), Perpetual Energy, PETRONAS Energy Canada, Shell Canada and Tourmaline Oil.
The approved projects, which will advance their technology through pilots, field trials or demonstrations, include:
- Kuva Canada will demonstrate methane imaging detection, quantification, work order deployment, and repair validation solutions at gas wells and gas plants; approved funding is C$66,354; eligible project value is C$360,000;
- Etalim Inc will pilot the demonstration of a natural gas engine without sliding or rotating parts for remote power use; approved funding is C$149,829; eligible project value is C$1.44mn;
- Zeet Inc will pilot a demonstration of waste heat recovery technology at a natural gas facility in western Canada; approved funding is C$53,909; eligible project value is C$395,000;
- JSD Construction will demonstrate natural gas generators to replace diesel run generators, approved funding is C$350,000; eligible project value is C$1.92mn, and;
- Terrafixing Inc will develop a prototype and test its direct air capture technology geared towards cold, dry climates; approved funding is C$100,460; eligible project value is C$2.1mn.
