BBC: Foster: Stopping fracking exploration 'wrong'

The enterprise minister said it would be wrong to stop a company exploring hydraulic fracturing in County Fermanagh, on 9 May 2013.

An Australian company, Tamboran, has a licence to explore the method of gas extraction also known as fracking. It involves drilling down and creating tiny explosions to crack shale rocks to release the gas inside.

Arlene Foster told the Enterprise Committee it was wrong not to at "least look at different sources of energy" whether it be renewable, or oil or gas by conventional or non-conventional means.

"I think we have a duty to look at those as people are concerned about the price of their energy," she said.  MORE
