French Government Prepared to Extend Shale Exploration Licenses

Developpement Durable le journal reports that the French government is prepared to grant companies licensed for shale gas and shale oil exploration "a possible extension of the duration of exploration permits to take into account these decisions" through the suspension of exploration work requested by the ministries of industry and ecology.

The Ministries asked for the suspension pending a report of a commission to study the environmental consequences of the exploitation of shale. A progress report by the commission will be made April 15, with a final report on May 31.
