French Waga plans Canadian RNG installation

France’s Waga Energy said April 13 it has joined with Quebec natural gas utility Energir and a local municipality to develop a renewable natural gas (RNG) project at the Saint-Etienne-des-Gres landfill, halfway between Quebec City and Montreal.

It will be Waga’s first installation in North America of its WAGABOX® technology, which is already producing RNG at 10 sites in France. The Quebec unit will be operational in 2022, treating up to 3,400 m3/yr of biomethane, producing 468,000 GJ/yr of RNG and preventing 23,000 mt/yr of CO2-equivalent emissions annually.

Energir will purchase the RNG from Wega Energy and inject it into its system supply, helping Quebec achieve its aspirations to have 10% of the province’s gas requirements met by RNG by 2030.
