Gail, RRVUNL sign MoU to optimise gas power plants in India's Rajasthan

Indian state-owned gas company Gail and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RRVUNL) have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to optimise the operations of RRVUNL's gas-based power plants in Rajasthan, Gail announced on August 8.

Under the MoU, RRVUNL and Gail will explore the possibility of transferring RRVUNL's gas-based power plants in Dholpur and Ramgarh to a proposed joint venture company between the two entities. Additionally, both parties will collaborate on the development of approximately 1 GW of solar and wind projects, aiming to create opportunities for round-the-clock power generation.

Detailed feasibility studies will be conducted for each project to establish their techno-commercial viability before the joint venture is formed, Gail said.

Gail, through its natural gas pipeline network of approximately 1,090 km, supplies gas to industrial customers in Bhiwadi, Neemrana, Khuskhera, Kota, Jaisalmer, and the Chittorgarh region in Rajasthan. The company also supplies gas to 19 city gas distribution entities across various districts in Rajasthan, including Kota, Bhilwara, Bhiwadi, Chittorgarh, and Jodhpur, serving residential, commercial, small industrial, and transport sectors to promote green and clean energy.

RRVUNL, a government of Rajasthan-owned company, is responsible for developing power projects in the state and managing the operation and maintenance of state-owned power stations.
