Gail Starts the Process to Build Ambitious East India Gas Pipeline
Gail India has initiated a major step towards the construction of the ambitious $2bn Jagadishpur-Haldia-Bokaro-Dhamra Natural Gas Pipeline (JHBDPL) by placing orders for pipeline laying work of 345 km from Phulpur to Dobhi under phase-IB at an estimated cost of rupees 3.06bn ($45.6mn).
The government of India on September 21 said it will partially fund the gas pipeline project that will connect major states in east India; it is the first time ever that the government has made a capital grant to a natural gas pipeline project.
The phase-IB is divided into two sections with JSIW Infrastructure and IL&FS Engineering & Construction executing the contracts respectively, Gail said October 10. Laying works under phase-IB will start this October and due to be end by December 2018.
The first phase of the project will cost rupees 32bn and will cover 755 km to cover Phulpur, Mani, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Dobhi, Silao, Patna and Barauni spread across various sections. Pipeline construction is already under progress along Gaya-Barauni–Patna section, Gail said.
