Leadership NG: Gas Devt: Nigeria Faces Tough LNG Competition With Other African Countries
Prospects of investment in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) which is one of Nigeria’s key gas development initiative may face serious challenges due to some notable factors.
Nigeria, Africa’s largest gas consumer and producer, is gradually losing investment opportunities as current focus for new gas projects is shifting to the east coast and to the huge offshore discoveries in Mozambique and Tanzania.
A special report by World Energy Outlook (WEO) 2014 blamed Nigeria for her inability to put in place proper legislative frame work to tackle gas flare and attract investment.
The WEO, recognised as the most authoritative source of strategic analysis of global energy markets also noted that the East coast liquefied natural gas export is helped by relative proximity to the importing markets of Asia.
