Finacial Express Bangladesh: Gas import attempts fall flat as overseas sources show no interest
The country's persisting natural gas supply-related problems are set to deteriorate further, raising some serious concerns over uncertainties about its energy security. This fear has been expressed by various relevant sources.
Industry insiders pointed out that different attempts by the country to import gas from the overseas sources "have not succeeded so far", alongside the fact that its scope for raising domestic output, at least in the near-, short- and medium-term, "remains limited" under the existing scenario in its energy sector.
The country witnessed the domestic demand increasing at a very fast rate over the years and this demand is still on the rose. Following this, it initiated talks with relevant authorities for importing natural gas from neighbouring Myanmar, central Asia's Turkmenistan and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar. But no headway has yet been made on all these fronts, they said. MORE
