Gasum Chooses Pori for its First LNG Import Terminal in Finland
Finland’s Gasum has chosen Tahkoluoto, Pori as the location of its first LNG import terminal, with the intention to serve LNG to the entire western coast of the Scandinavian country, from Hanko to Kokkola.
‘The 30,000 cubic metre terminal will improve the availability of LNG in Finland and reduce emissions,’ reads a note released on Tuesday.
The company said it expects to begin construction activities by the end of the year and finish the terminal in the fall of 2016.
‘The LNG import terminal will diversify Finnish gas and fuel markets. The use of LNG will improve the competitiveness of businesses, since in recent years the price of LNG has been more stable than that of replaceable fuels and price development has been moderate. LNG is also more environmentally friendly than the fossil fuels currently used by the industry, maritime traffic and energy production,’ the company said in the communiqué.
Last week, Gasum unveiled it would acquire 51% of Norwegian Skangass’ distribution operations from Lyse Corporation.
