Gazprom Yamal Project on "Home Stretch"
Gazprom has announced that it has begun pre-commissioning work on the Bovanenkovo field, one of the 11 gas fields on the massive Yamal Peninsula project, putting the project on the "home stretch".
During the work, gas from the field was transferred to the comprehensive gas treatment unit (CGTU) module 1, in order to perform hot testing on the gas and to test the equipment of the field.
The company also announced that it was nearing completion on the Bovanenkovo - Ukhta gas trunkline system (GTS) string 1, with 1,240 kilometres of pipeline welded. The company has also begun work on string 2 of the project, with 50 kilometres of the pipeline already welded. This portion of the pipeline is expected to become operational on a gradual basis between 2013 and 2015.
"The startup complex of the Bovanenkovo field has entered the home stretch," Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee said.
"Adjustment of the gas production systems located in Yamal is to be done and the gas transmission facilities created for gas supply to the mainland are to be synchronized. In June the first gas produced from the Bovanenkovo field will be delivered to the customers ahead of schedule."
The Bovanenkovo field is expected to contribute 115 billion cubic metres a year to the gas output from the Yamal Peninsula. This is expected to rise to 140 billion cubic metres a year over the long term of the project.
