Gazprom, private partner form JV to develop Yamal gas
Gazprom and its private Russian partner Rusgazdobycha have registered a joint venture to develop the giant Tambey gas project on the Yamal peninsula, they said on November 2.
The partners are targeting first gas from the project in 2026. Its reserves contain a high quantity of ethane, which can be used as feedstock at a major gas processing complex that Gazprom and Rusgazdobycha are building in the Baltic port of Ust-Luga.

Gazprom obtained a licence to develop the Tambey fields in 2008, but it is yet to approve their development. At stake are an estimated 7.3 trillion m3 in gas reserves, according to Gapzrom.
Russian press reports claim private Russian gas producer Novatek has been lobbying the government to grant it a role in Tambey's development. The company argues it would be more profitable to export their gas in LNG form rather than deliver it to Ust-Luga for onward transport to Europe via pipeline. It is developing a series of liquefaction terminals on the Yamal and neighbouring Gydan peninsulas.
