Gazprom Talks Shale in Press Release

A news release from Gazprom said the company continues to monitor advancement of the shale gas sector.

"The Management Committee took notice of the information concerning the shale gas market outlook. Specialized subdivisions were tasked to continue monitoring the shale gas sector advancement in various regions of the world."

The release said that the Management Committee ordered that "appropriate materials are prepared for consideration of the Board of Directors."

Citing ' technological and commercial peculiarities,' a backgrounder continued Gazprom's stance of pouring cold water on shale prospects vis-a-vis Russian sources of supply.

Interestingly, the release mentions that " Gazprom possesses its own technologies similar to those applied for shale gas production. They are currently used for coalbed methane production in Kuzbass."

Perhaps this indicates that Gazprom is one step closer to the inevitable day that it steps into the shale fray?
