TMK to supply pipes for Turkmen power plant

Russian pipemaker TMK has been hired to supply 15,000 metric tons of pipes for a pipeline to bring gas from fields in Turkmenistan to a power station, the company said on October 26.

The pipeline in question will run to the Zerger gas power plant under development in Turkmenistan's eastern Lebap region. TMK will supply large-diameter, high-strength pipes. with external insulation coating from its Volzhsky and Chelyabinsk pipe mills.

TMK described Central Asia as a priority market, noting it aimed to deliver the pipes as early as this year.

A contract to develop the 432-MW Zerger power plant was signed by Turkmenistan's state-owned Turkmenenergo and Japan's Sumitomo in 2015. The station is due to supply electricity to neighbouring Afghanistan.
