Gazprom and Ukraine Continue Gas Talks

Gazprom's CEO Alexey Miller and Ukrainian Minister for Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Boiko have met in Russia to discuss cooperation between the two on the gas sector.

A statement released by Gazprom said the company hosted the meeting at its headquarters but did not give any details on the progress of the discussions or issues raised.

The meeting follows continued rumblings from Ukraine that the country will diversify its gas imports away from Russia should a reduction in gas prices not take place.

Naftogaz Ukrainy and Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov have both said that the country may turn to German company RWE for the import of Russian gas, since the prices charged by RWE for Gazprom's gas was cheaper than what the company offered Ukraine.

The discussions on gas prices and on Russia's use of Ukraine's gas transit system show no signs of coming to a close, with issues still unresolved months past expectations on both sides.
