BelTA: Gazprom to reconsider building Yamal-Europe 2 gas pipeline via Belarus

President of Russia Vladimir Putin has instructed Gazprom to reconsider the project to build the Yamal-Europe 2 gas pipeline via Belarus for the sake of delivering gas to Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary. The instruction was issued when Vladimir Putin met with Gazprom CEO Mr Alexei Miller on 3 April, BelTA has learned.

“Due to the Nord Stream and the South Stream we have virtually scrapped the Yamal-Europe 2 project,” said Vladimir Putin. “We have virtually started the work on the South Stream and I would like to request you to revisit the project Yamal-Europe 2”.

The Russia President believes it will improve the reliability of gas deliveries to European countries.

In turn, Alexei Miller said that Gazprom was already considering the possibility of building a gas pipeline via Belarus for deliveries to Europe. Preliminary negotiations indicate the effectiveness of the project that can be implemented in 2018-2019.  MORE
