GECF Third Summit Meeting Opens in Tehran
The third summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) opened in Tehran on November 23.
The presidents of Iran, Russia, Bolivia, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Venezuela, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Iraq, as well as the prime minister of Algeria attended the meeting.
The secretary general of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Abdalla Salem El-Badri, and the secretary general of the International Energy Forum (IEF), Aldo Flores-Quiroga, also participated in the meeting.
Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela are members of the GECF. Iraq, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Azerbaijan, and Peru have the status of observer members.
Together, the GECF’s 12 member countries account for 67% of the world’s gas reserves, for 64% of global LNG exports and for 42% of cross-border pipeline trade.
