Georgia Expects Gori-Kareli Section By Month-End
Georgia moves forward with its plan to complete the Gori-Kareli section of the gas pipeline connecting Gori to Kutaisi. The country expects construction works to be completed in a couple of weeks.
‘Construction of DN 700 Gori-Kareli 20 km section of the main gas pipeline continues and 73% of construction works are already completed,’ reads a note released by Georgian Oil & Gas Corporation on Thursday.
According to the company, construction of Gori-Kareli section is implemented under phase IV of the East-West Main Gas Pipeline Rehabilitation Project. U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funded the project.
‘Contractual price of Gori-Kareli 20 km section amounts to USD 3 889 692, 24. The materials for the construction of two sections of the East-West Main Gas Pipeline (Gori-Kareli and Zestaponi-Kutaisi) were procured under one tender.’
The Turkish company Energy Gas Heating Systems Construction Industry won the tender. Construction works are expected to be completed by October 2014.
In June, European authorities signed an Association Agreement with Georgia.
