Germany orders LNG-fired vessel trio
The German government has ordered three multipurpose maritime vessels that run exclusively on LNG, a manufacturer announced on March 16.
Schottel, which designs maritime propulsion systems, said the government’s Waterways and Shipping Administration had ordered three vessels from the Abeking & Rasmussen ship and yacht shipyard. They will be equipped with Schottel's propulsion systems.

“The newly designed A&R vessels will run exclusively on LNG,” the company’s statement read.
These multipurpose vessels will operate in the German coastal waters of the Baltic and North Seas. They include special equipment on board designed for hazardous operations, including shipping accidents. The first of the LNG-fired vessels is scheduled for service in 2023 with the final one due to start operations no later than 2025.
