Germany's ThyssenKrupp to Build Methane Processing Plant in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar and Germany’s ThyssenKrupp have agreed to cooperate on a methane gas processing project in Mongolia, according to a report by local newspaper UB Post.

During the 5th Mongolian-German Economic Committee meeting, held on October 13 in Ulaanbaatar, the Ministry of Energy of Mongolia and ThyssenKrupp of Germany established a memorandum of cooperation on the project.

The project has been in discussion for some time. With Mongolian lawmakers amending the energy law concerning natural gas and methane earlier this year, building a methane gas processing has become a possibility, the newspaper said.

As per the memorandum, ThyssenKrupp will work on a feasibility study and ensure personnel preparedness, while the Mongolian government will issue a license and provide support in creating conditions to build the plant.

The Mongolian side will also select a Mongolian project contractor and provide assistance in raising funds for building the factory, UB Post said.
