Ghana's Jubilee Awards Mooring Contract
Scottish engineering firm Flintstone Technology said May 1 it has secured a contract for its in-line tensioning and pull-through connection mooring system, from the Japanese shipbuilder Modec.
The system will be used on Tullow Oil’s Kwame Nkrumah MV21 floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, located on the Jubilee oil and gas field offshore Ghana. Although the ship is owned by Tullow, it is Modec-operated. The field has produced since 2010 but the ship has had technical problems in the past couple of years.
The new mooring system will allow the conversion of the FPSO to a spread-moored configuration. Tullow said a week ago that a further one-week shutdown is planned late 2018 at its Jubilee field to rotate the FPSO to its permanent heading and install the final spread mooring anchoring system. Dundee-based Flintstone said the contract value as "substantial"; a spokesperson told NGW it is a "multi-million" deal.
The Kwame Nkrumah MV21 ship (shown above, photo courtesy of Tullow) can produce up to 120,000 b/d oil and 160mn ft3/d gas, and has storage capacity of 1.6mn bbls oil. Jubilee is operated by Tullow with 35.48%; its partners are US firms Kosmos Energy and Anadarko (each with 24.08%), state-owned Ghana National Petroleum Corp (13.64%) and South African state-owned PetroSA (2.72%).
