Glenfarne confirms plan to lead Alaska LNG development
Houston-based Glenfarne Energy Transition confirmed January 9 it had signed an exclusive agreement with Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC) to lead the development of the proposed 20mn tonnes/year Alaska LNG project.
AGDC President Frank Richard had said January 6 the AGDC had reached an “exclusive framework agreement” with a qualified energy company to “privately lead and fund” the development of the $44bn Alaska LNG project.
“I expect a formal announcement of the definitive agreements in the next few months,” he said.
Glenfarne, which is nearing a final investment decision on its much smaller 4mn tonnes/year Texas LNG project in Brownsville, Texas, confirmed in a statement to NGW it had agreed to develop the project, including the LNG export facility at Nikiski, on Alaska’s Cook Inlet, a carbon capture facility and a pipeline to bring natural gas south from Alaska’s North Slope.
“As well, Glenfarne and ENSTAR Natural Gas Company (a regulated utility serving 151,000 Alaska customers) have entered into an exclusive agreement to advance an LNG import project utilising the Alaska LNG export site,” the statement said. The LNG import facility would be developed separately from Alaska LNG, although the two facilities could share certain common infrastructure.
