Forbes: Athens Clearing Way for Gas Grid Privatization
The push towards the privatization of Greece’s energy sector – among many – continued this week with news that Athens will likely move to approve the purchase of a substantial stake of the country’s gas grid company by Azerbaijan’s state-owned oil company SOCAR.
Under discussion since 2013, the deal would give over 60 percent of the company to SOCAR for about $457 million, according to the country’s privatization agency. The news comes at a time when Greece has continued to struggle to weather its deep and prolonged financial crisis.
