Hydrocarbons Technology: GTT to supply LNG carriers for Yamal Project

Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has secured a contract to supply nine liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for the Yamal Project in Russia.

The LNG carriers will travel through the Arctic Ocean to create a link between the liquefaction production plant at Yamal, situated in the north-west part of Russia, and customers in North East Asia.

They will be constructed by South-Korea-based Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). Teekay Shipping and the Center for LNG (CLNG) will jointly own six vessels while the remaining three will be held by Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) and China Shipping LNG.

GTT expects to deliver the vessels between 2017 and 2019. The company said that the contract follows a similar Sovcomflot order of an LNG carrier in March.
