Gujarat State Petroleum Corp to Set Up Shale Gas Lab

Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI), an undertaking of Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) is expected to start the process of establishing a shale gas laboratory in the state of Gujarat, Press Trust of India has reported.

The laboratory would be set up with the assistance from Oil Industry Development Board.

The move is significant as India is increasing focus on exploring its shale gas resources and is expected to conduct first auction of shale gas blocks next year.

"GERMI is planning to set up a shale gas laboratory on its campus, which could be a helping arm to region like Cambay in Gujarat, having considerable shale formations," GERMI Director T Harinarayan said, PTI reported.

The proposed laboratory could play a vital role in exploring and analysing the regions with shale gas potentials in the country, with focus on Gujarat.
