Horizon Hits Gas at Elevala-2
Australia’s Horizon Oil has confirmed presence of gas or gas condensate at an appraisal well in Papua New Guinea.
Horizon said the well was located about 2.1km west of the Elevala-1 discovery well to specifically test the northern extent of the hydrocarbon accumulation some 60m down-dip of Elevala-1.
The find is at the Elevala-2 well on licence 21 in Western Province and the sand thickness and well quality are similar to those at Elevala-1.
The Elevala-1 well was discovered in 1989-1990 and flowed at a rate of 11.9 million cubic feet of gas and 634 barrels of 54-degree API condensate per day in a test.
Horizon operates the well with a 45% stake while Talisman Energy holds 40% and Kina Petroleum the remaining 15%.
