Politics.hu: Orbán: South Stream gas pipeline a must
The Russian-backed South Stream gas pipeline project is a must, Prime Minister Viktor Orban told a news conference after a Tuesday summit of Hungarian and Serbian leaders.
“No one can take away from us the right to take care of the security of our energy supplies,” Orban said. Anyone who opposes the South Stream pipeline “only wants to take away our right to a secure supply without offering anything in its place,” he added.
“We must stick to our guns on building South Stream,” Orban said, adding that he had assured his counterpart Aleksandar Vucic that “this is what we are going to do”.
Orban said Hungary did not want to be in a position where its gas supplies depend on what happens in Ukraine. Solidarity with Ukraine cannot be expressed in a way that jeopardises our own energy security, he added. This is why Hungary does not support international opinions which are against the South Stream project.
