Hungary to Resume Gas Transit To Ukraine
Hungary’s gas transport system operator FGSZ will resume reverse-mode gas supplies to Ukraine as January 1, 2015,
“We are ready to begin supplies of natural gas to Ukraine from January 1, 2015,” the company said said on Monday.
On September 25th, gas flows from Hungary to Ukraine were halted yesterday with Ukrainian TSO Ukrtransgaz for technical reasons “until further notice”.
Technically speaking, Hungary halted deliveries to Ukraine to receive significant quantities of western bound Gazprom gas to be stored in Hungary.
However, the unexpected disruption came a few days after a meeting between Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, further tightening gas supply to Ukraine in advance of trilateral Ukraine-Russia-EC negotiations which were upcoming at that time.
