Polish Government Supports Hutton Energy’s Jurassic Shale Play
Hutton Energy has announced that is has been awarded the top grant of $2 million in the Category B of Poland’s Blue Gas – Polish Shale Gas competition.
The competition program was created by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) and the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) to support integrated R&D projects which are designed to promote shale gas extraction.
For the purpose of the program Hutton entered into partnership with the Polish Academy of Science (PAN) and will create a research consortium with the Institute of Geological Sciences (ING PAN) and the Institute of Geophysics (IGF PAN). The project concept was put together by a technical team consisting of: Principal Investigator Piotr Krzywiec (PhD, Associate Professor at ING PAN), Michał Malinowski (PhD, Assistant Professor at IGF PAN), and Frank Maio (Exploration Director at Hutton Energy).
Hutton will lead the project, entitled “Jurashale,” which is focused on the Jurassic shale play covered by three of Hutton’s wholly-owned concessions: Łódź Zachód (809 km²/199,908 acres), Kolo (1,189 km²/292,808 acres) and Poddębice (645 km²/159,383 acres). There are multiple play types across the concessions, including conventional oil traps and Jurassic and Triassic sands and unconventional oil and gas resource potential in the Jurassic shales.
Managing Director David Messina commented: “This grant is verification of the importance Poland is placing on the new Jurassic exploration play and the recognition of Hutton’s exploration competencies. It demonstrates our intention to continue supporting Polish R&D, and to continue developing relationships with research institutions as part of our on-going commitment to Polish academia.”
