Hydrogen supporters call for EU support for electrolysers
Hydrogen Europe and the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition called on the EU on November 8 to support electrolysers with capacities of at least 50 MW under its Trans-European Networks for Energy (TEN-E) regulation, which is undergoing revision.
TEN-E encompasses the EU's policies on energy infrastructure, and is due to be revised along with other regulation as part of reforms to ensure that the bloc reaches its target of cutting emissions by 55% by 2030.

"Electrolysers are Europe’s signature renewable hydrogen technology," Hydrogen Europe CEO Jorgo Chatzimarkakis said in a statement. "The EU must support these projects through all available means, including TEN-E policy, if it is to deliver on its climate commitments and build an innovative and competitive clean energy industry."
The Renewable Hydrogen Coalition's impact director, Francois Paquet, added that "channelling support for the upscale of electrolysers' capacity 'made in Europe' will be essential to become the leader in renewable hydrogen, and the revised TEN-E should be one of the tools to delivers this ambition."
In their joint letter to the European Commission and member states, the two organisations argued that the support would spur the development of mid-sized electrolysers, provide financial incentives to investors, and "pave the way for larger projects in a gradual and cumulative manner to kick-start a hydrogen economy in Europe."
