Idemitsu receives blue ammonia from UAE

Japanese petroleum company Idemitsu Kosan Co. has received the first shipment of blue ammonia from UAE’s ADNOC, it said on December 13.

The blue ammonia, transported via ISO tanks, was produced from natural gas by fertiliser producer Fertiglobe at the Fertil plant in the Ruwais industrial park. The natural gas was supplied by ADNOC. The ammonia is being stored at Idemitsu's existing ammonia tank at the Yokkaichi refinery.

Idemitsu said it would use the ammonia in chemical applications. “Based on the current experience in international transport, we will continue to improve the technology for fuel use of ammonia at our facilities and establish a fuel ammonia supply to our customers, through cooperation with a variety of leading companies both domestically and abroad,” the company said.
