IGU Selects Canada for 2024 Research Conference
The International Gas Union (IGU), which represents more than 160 members in the global gas value chain, will hold its 2024 International Gas Research Conference (IGRC2024) in Canada, the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) said February 8.
The CGA holds Canada’s charter membership in the IGU.

First held in Chicago in 1980, the IGRC is a global forum bringing together leading experts from around the world. It is the signature event for the global industry to discuss research, development, and innovation, and will be held in Banff, a Rocky Mountain resort town west of Calgary, the week of May 12, 2024.
“In the ongoing developing of IGU’s event portfolio, we have placed greater emphasis on innovations and enhancements,” IGU president Joe Kang said. “In in selecting Canada, IGU has an IGRC2024 host that is one of the world’s largest producers, exporters and consumers of natural gas, and understands the importance of innovation throughout that value chain.”
“Hosting IGRC2024 comes at an exciting and critical time as we work to build an even better gas industry to serve millions around the world with affordable, reliable, clean gaseous energy,” CGA CEO Timothy Egan said. “The value proposition of gas is a global one, and that means calling on the expertise of the global industry, including our fellow IGU members and the many technology companies worldwide working with gaseous fuels, to join us at IGRC2024.”
As the host of the conference, the CGA will develop a number of thematic streams to explore during IGRC2024, including emissions management, alternative gaseous fuels like hydrogen and bio-methane, gas-electric integration and small-scale liquefied natural gas applications for remote communities, among others.
And it will hold virtual events leading up to 2024 that will serve as a platform for ongoing discussions about the gas industry and its work world-wide to drive energy innovation, and improve energy affordability, resilience and environmental performance.
