GAIL India’s chairman B C Tripathi has said that India has huge appetite for imported gas but reforms in power and fertilizer sectors are needed to absorb internationally prices gas.

Talking to Times of India Tripathi said that there are various other industries in which natural gas could replace alternate fuels. So, there are opportunities for consumption of more volumes of imported liquid gas, he said.

Elaboration on the Dhabol LNG terminal, the chairman told the Times of India that In the immediate future, LNG from the terminal will cater to the demand of the customers in the southern states.

Domestic gas output is on a decline and the demand for gas is on an increase, he said. Tripathi further added that the Dhabol regas terminal provides gateway for the new consumers as well as for the consumers in existing regions due to growing demand.

GAIL will endeavor to maximize the capacity utilization of the terminal regas and storage facilities by leveraging over 9,600 km of cross-country pipeline network, he said.
