India Wants to Start Feasibility Study of Galkynysh

Indian government has asked major energy firms to start feasibility study on exploring the giant gas field Galkynysh located in Turkmenistan.

Business Standard newspaper reported that senior officials of external affairs ministry met last week to discuss proposed TAPI project where some of the major Indian oil and gas companies were invited to discuss the potential and feasibility of acquiring stake in the Galkynysh gas field.

In the meeting, it was decided that the feasibility study might start by next month, ministry officials told Business Standard.

The Galkynysh gas field is regarded as the world's second largest.

Earlier this month, India's minister for petroleum and natural gas, M Veerappa Moily said Turkmenistan has agreed to consider offering stake in the giant field and that it will be built by an international consortium in which India will also have equity participation.
