India to Supply Gas to Myanmar

An Indian consortium comprising Indraprastha Gas and Gail has been selected by New Yangon Development Company (NYDC) to supply and distribute gas in Myanmar’s New Yangon City, NYDC said August 20.

New Delhi-based Indraprastha Gas is leading city gas player in the Delhi National Capital Region while Gail is India's largest gas distribution and marketing company. NYDC also selected Thai PPT group comprising PTT, PTTEP and GPSC to supply and distribute power.

NYDC is an entity incorporated under the Special Companies Act to develop New Yangon City. It is wholly owned by the Yangon regional government and its brief is to develop 20,000 acres west of central Yangon.

In February this year, NYDC had invited expression of interest to participate in Stage-2 infrastructure projects, which included six work streams, namely power supply and distribution; gas supply and distribution; cyber connectivity; public transport; waste management; and a convention and exhibition centre for New Yangon City.

NYDC received an aggregate of 77 EOI submissions from 45 companies/consortiums interested to tender for the respective work streams. The company said it has now started the evaluation process for the remaining work streams starting with cyber connectivity infrastructure.
