Indian Gas Exchange reports 15% m/m jump in trade volume in August

The Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) traded approximately 118mn m³ of gas in August, reflecting a 15% month/month increase, it announced on September 4.

A total of 96 trades were executed during the month. IGX currently offers trades at 15 delivery points, comprising four LNG terminals, three pipeline interconnection points, and eight domestic gas field landfall points.

Among these, the Dahej terminal was the most active, followed by the Mhaskal interconnect point. Dahej accounted for 78% of the total volume, with a growth of 201% month/month and 287% year/year.

During August, the exchange-traded gas deliveries at a rate of about 2.5mn m³/day. The month also saw the first trade at the Jaya delivery point, a Vedanta-operated gas field connected to Gail's pipeline network in Gujarat.

IGX offers delivery-based trades in six contract types: day-ahead, daily, weekday, weekly, fortnightly, and monthly, with trading available for up to six consecutive months. In August, 29 trades were executed under the daily contract (the highest number), followed by 27 trades in the monthly contract, 18 in weekly, 11 in day-ahead, 10 in fortnightly, and one in weekday contracts.
