India's gas consumption up 2% in May
India’s natural gas consumption in May was 5.4bn m3, up 1.8% year/year, the government said on June 28.
Cumulative consumption of natural gas during April-May, the first two months of the 2022-2023 financial year (FY2023), was 10.54bn m3, down 1.6% yr/yr. The biggest consumer of natural gas in India is the fertiliser industry. Other major consumers are power, city gas distribution and petrochemicals sectors.

India’s natural gas production in May was 2.91bn m3, up 6.4% yr/yr. Cumulative natural gas production in April-May was 5.74bn m3, up 6.5% yr/yr.
The country’s natural gas output in FY2022 was 34bn m3, up 18.7% yr/yr. Crisil Ratings told NGW in early April that India’s natural gas output in FY23 is expected to rise by 10-15% yr/yr.
