India's Mundra Terminal Receives First Cargo: Press

GSPC LNG’s Mundra LNG terminal, located in the western Indian state of Gujarat, January 22 received its first cargo, Businessline reported the same day citing sources. The arrival of the cargo marks the commissioning of India’s fifth and Gujarat’s third LNG import terminal.

The 5 million metric tons/yr terminal at Mundra has been developed by GSPC LNG, which is a joint venture between Gujarat state-owned GSPC and private sector firm Adani. The regasified LNG from the terminal shall be evacuated by the 67 km Mundra-Anjar pipeline, which further connects to the existing Gujarat State Petronet’s gas grid.

The sources told the newspaper that a 140,000 metric ton LNG cargo from Qatar arrived on January 22 at Mundra LNG terminal. However, no official announcement has been made either by the promoters or the government. The terminal will soon be functional with an initial operational capacity of about 1.5-2mn mt/yr, a source privy to the development told the newspaper.

The terminal was officially inaugurated by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi in October 2018. Insiders claim a dispute between the promoters had delayed the commissioning of the terminal, Businessline said.
