India’s gross production of natural gas in the month of September was 2.72bn m³, up 4.74% compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, data released by the Indian oil ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell showed October 20.
State owned ONGC was the biggest producer with output of 1.93bn m³ in September compared with 1.84bn m³ in September 2016.
Cumulative gross production of natural gas was 16.41bn m³ for the six months of the current fiscal, up 4.38% compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.

Indian’s domestic natural gas output has been unable to keep up with the growing demand, resulting in significant imports. The south Asian nation imports about half its gas demand in the form of LNG.
