Indonesia Needs 400 New Wells to Meet CBM Output Target

Indonesia needs to drill 400 new wells in order to achieve the target of producing 500 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCF) of coal-bed methane gas by 2015, an official of country’s energy regulator BPMigas said.

Currently, the country has about 1,600 producing wells.

Indonesian CBM reserves are estimated at 453 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), bigger than conventional gas reserves which only reach 152 Tcf.

A report in Indonesia Today said, currently three joint contractors are testing CBM wells. They are Medco and Sangatta West which target 1 MMSCFD to produce 2.5MW electricity, and VICO Indonesia Sanga-Sanga targeting 1.5 MMSCFD to generate 3.75MW.
