Indonesia Plans to Attract US Firms in Shale Sector
Indonesia is planning to attract American companies to be involved in shale gas exploration in the South East Asian nation.
According to Jakarta Post, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik said on Friday that the country expected the US to transfer technologies to develop shale gas following the unconventional natural gas boom in the country.
“The US government has successfully developed shale gas. Indonesia also possesses shale gas potential and thus we have asked them to enter shale gas exploration in our country,” Jero said in a statement.
As per government estimates Indonesia is estimated to have shale gas resources of around 574 trillion cubic feet (tcf) throughout Sumatra, Kalimantan, Papua and Java, Jakarta Post said.
