Indonesia to Allow PLN to Import LNG

Indonesian government has allowed state run electricity company Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to import LNG for the purpose of electricity generation, reports Antara News.

Director of Upstream Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Hendra Fadly said import of LNG is needed as Indonesia cannot produce gas forever.

Fadly added that imports would take place if the price is cheaper than the price of exported gas.

The government, he explained, is preparing gas balance until 2030 that maps and gas supply needs throughout Indonesia, including needs of PLN, Antara News reports.

Earlioer, PLN said it was experiencing a shortage of as much as 22 cargoes of LNG.
