Iran Begins Work on Gas Pipeline to Syria

Iran has started work on natural gas pipeline that will extend to Syria via Iraq, according to Zawya. The 1,500 kilometre pipeline is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2013.

The pipeline is expected to supply both Iraq and Syria with around 25m cu. m of gas per day, following on from the $10bn natural gas pipeline deal signed between the respective ministers last year in Assaluyeh, western Iran.

The gas will be sourced from the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf.
