Iran Denies Deal to Cut Price of Gas Exported to Turkey

Iran has dismissed reports which said Tehran has reached an agreement with Turkey’s BOTAS to cut price of gas supplied to the company, Shana News reported Monday.

"We have had no agreements with [Turkey's] BOTAS in this regard," director for international affairs of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Azizollah Ramezani said.

Iran is selling natural gas to BOTAS at a fair price which needs no revisions or reductions, Ramezani said.

Last month Turkish media agencies had quoted Iran's ambassador to Turkey as saying that the two neighbours have in principle agreed to increase the quantity of Iran's exported gas to Turkey.

Tehran charges about $490 for every 1,000 cubic meters of natural gas it exports to Turkey, which claims that the Azerbaijan and Russia supply gas at $335-340 and about $425 per 1,000 cubic meters, respectively.

As per the deal in existence, Turkey has been buying 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Iran per year since 2001.
