Iran Drills First Well at Afshar-1 Gas Field

Iran has started drilling the first exploratory well at the Afshar-1 gas field, which it shares with Turkmenistan.

ISNA reported that studies suggest the field, which is spread over nine square kilometres, contains considerable amounts of natural gas

The Islamic Republic has attached priority to boosting gas production capacity at its joint oil and gas fields shared with neighbours such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Tehran Times said in a report. 

 With 34 trillion cubic meters of natural gas reserves, Iran has the world's second-largest natural gas reserves after Russia.
