Iran Inaugurates South Pars Phases 15, 16

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani officially inaugurated South Pars Gas field’s phases 15 and 16 on Monday, according to local media reports.

Since the start of operations in December 2013, the two phases have produced 15.5 billion cubic meters of gas, 14 million barrels of gas condensates, 3,000 tons of sulfur, and more than 5,000 tons of ethane, official media agency Shana reported.

The daily production target for phases 15 and 16 has been set at 56.6 mcm of natural gas, 75,000 barrels of condensates, and 400 tons of sulfur, as well as 1.05 million tons of LPG and 1 million tons of ethane annually.

While addressing the inauguration ceremony managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIGC) Rokneddin Javadi said more phases will be launched by June. Phases 19, 20 and 21 will be ready to be launched by June 2016.

The on-shore section of the phases 17 and 18 are currently ready to operate at full capacity, said Javadi, adding that once development of the phases’ off-shore section becomes complete, they will be launched in the year to mid-March 2017, he noted.
