Iran, Oman Studying Gas Pipeline Route
Iran and Oman are surveying the best path for a submarine gas pipe to transfer Iran’s gas to the sultanate, Oman’s oil and gas minister told Oman Observer earlier this week.
In August, the two countries inked a gas supply deal where Iran would supply gas to Oman for 25 years via undersea pipeline. The deal has been valued at about $60 billion.
“We are currently doing a survey to find out the optimum distance and characteristics of the seabed and all that goes with it,” Oman Observer quoted Al Rumhy.
The minister added that a pipeline project of this nature was fraught with many technical challenges, including seabed conditions, long lead times with regard to pipeline procurement and construction, among other factors.
“So we will take one step at a time,” he remarked.
