Iran, Oman to Talk Gas Cooperation

Iran and Oman are expected to begin talks pertaining to Iranian gas exports to Oman, developing joint offshore gas fields, and expanding bilateral oil and gas trade.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh will hold talks with his Omani counterpart Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Tehran Times reported citing Mehr News Agency.

Iran and Oman signed a deal in 2009 to jointly develop an underwater 200-kilometer gas pipeline to Musandam and Sohar in Oman. In 2011, a National Iranian Gas Export Company official said that Iran has reached agreements with India and Oman on exporting gas to the two countries.

One possible way to transfer Iranian gas to India is via Oman through subsea pipelines, the official said, Tehran Times reported.

Based on a trilateral agreement among Iran, Oman and a third country, Iran's gas will feed Oman's liquefaction plant before being processed into various products in the third country.
