Iran to Launch Middle East's Largest Gas Storage Facility Next Week

Iran will next week launch Middle East’s largest gas storage facility, Shana News Agency reported Wednesday.

Shourijeh gas storage facility, which can supply 20 mcm/d of gas in winter, is to be launched in northeastern Iran.

The facility is expected to increase Iran’s gas delivery capacity by more than 9 mcm by winter. The volume of gas injection into the facility currently stands at 7.5 mcm/d, Shana said.

According to the news agency, the storage facility will supply gas to North Khorasan, Khorasan Razavi, Mazandaran, Guilan and Ardebil provinces in north, northeast and northwest of Iran.

Shourijeh facility, located 25 kilometers southeast of Sarakhs in northwestern Iran, can store up to 4.8 bcm of gas. The storage facility has a refinery with the capacity of 20 mcm/d.
