Iranian Pipeline Blast Kills Five
A leaky high-pressure gas pipeline exploded in the Khuzestan province of southeast Iran, killing five and injuring six, according to media reports March 14.
The gas network there is old. and the Ahvaz-Mahshar trunk pipeline has been in service for almost 50 years. It is not the first time that it has leaked gas, causing several explosions over the last decade, the previous one last August injuring nine.
Iran’s high pressure network is 38,747 km long and can carry 302bn m³/yr, according to official statistics.
